Milford Track with Ultimate Hikes
Walk from Pompolona Lodge to Quintin Lodge via Mackinnon Pass
9 hour day for me, as I’m extremely slow on the uphill sections. This time also included about 1 hours worth of rest stops, 15 minutes at Mintaro Hut and 45 minutes at Mackinnon Pass Shelter.
It was soooo cold and windy by the memorial that we only stopped for a quick couple of photos, then carried on to the shelter for lunch.
We had to use the emergency track down from the Pass due to avalanche risk, the emergency track is rather steep and more rocky than the main track, so a slower pace was needed.
It was a great day despite the weather, and the lack of views from the Pass. My descent was spent mostly in my own company as the group was spread out, but a guide was never far away if required.
