Out of Office Episode 5: Dive in at Via West

In this episode of Out of Office, we spend a day in the foothills of Silicon Valley at a summer camp, Camp Via West. This is an amazing camp that works with children and adults with disabilities. Dennis chats with our AmeriCamp participants as well as Camp Director, Alyssa. Then Dennis gets to be a camp counselor for the day!

About AmeriCamp:

Our international camp counselor program connects participants from around the world with the unique cultural experience of an American summer camp. Focused on service and support, we offer camps an opportunity to provide an enriching cultural exchange experience for campers through interaction with international staff qualified in a variety of skills from diverse countries. Participants will engage in a unique American pastime and learn about American culture while sharing their own customs and traditions.

For Participants:
Instead of just visiting the U.S. as a tourist, why not fully immerse yourself in American life through an American tradition, the camp experience? The Camp Counselor program allows you to spend up to 4 months working and traveling in the U.S. during your summer break.

As a J-1 Camp Counselor participant, you will have the opportunity to share your language, culture, and customs with the Americans you meet in your camps, local communities, and travel destinations over the course of your summer break. As you meet new people, make new friends, and experience new personal and professional challenges, you will learn about the United States, its values, and its people.

You'll earn money to cover expenses, receive housing, meet new friends, and improve your English skills. Most camps run for an eight-week session, and after your job is complete, you can spend the last months of the program traveling throughout the U.S.
