The form of great kilt for women is known as the earasaid. It’s very much the same garment as a great kilt for a man (the feileadh mor). That is to say it is just a large piece of yardage. The arisaid is smaller than a great kilt - usually around 50+ inches wide by three to four yards. It was traditionally worn as an overskirt but had enough fabric to be draped over the head and shoulders at the same time.
But what about a woman wearing the larger male-style Great Kilt? Or wearing a great kilt in the manner of a man? That is, using the same pleating method, shoulder drape etc. Emm and the lads discuss how this might shake out with an emphasis on contemporary style as opposed to wearing the great kilt for historical reenactment.
