All of a sudden the morning of day 17, our Coturnix Quail eggs began to hatch! I was not prepared for such a high hatch rate or for the Quail to hatch this closely together, so I rigged up a quick & easy Coturnix Quail brooder using a 40 gallon breeder tank that I had. I also used a Zoo Med thermometer with a wired probe, 100 watt heat lamp, screen top, waterer, and a piece of cardboard to cover half the screen to keep the heat in. The temperature in the Coturnix brooder directly under the heat lamp was 95 degrees F.
The food was gamebird starter crumbles that I ground up even further with mortar and pestle.
