Let’s Go! Hiking at Yamadera

Yamadera station is located approximately 35 minutes by the JR Senzan Line West of Ayashi Station. By travelling from Sendai, you cross the Miyagi-Yamagata border. Yamadera is a Buddhist temple situated atop a mountain (Yamadera= Mountain Temple) built over a thousand years ago. The entrance is a short walk from the station and costs 300 Yen for adults. The hike to the top consists of stone steps and takes about 30 minutes.

It has been one of my favourite scenic local spots to visit, especially being close to Ayashi Station. Anyone who enjoys hiking and the great outdoors will love this spot. Go early to beat the crowds on clear and sunny days.

The Let's Go Series was produced to inspire my ES children to get outside and explore. Only basic English is used in the videos so that children learning English as a second language can follow along.
