ABOUT MARS AS A 'GRAHA' ('MANGAL DEVA')

Astronomically, Mars is the red planet. It is the planet closest to the Earth in terms of livability. It has a reasonable gravitational field, atmosphere and polar ice caps that make it quite inhabitable should mankind need a new home on the future. The time it takes for Mars to orbit the Sun is 687 days. In fact, a single day on Mars resembles that on Earth quite a bit. It is 1 day 37 minutes long.

Mars has always traditionally, across cultures been associated with the themes of war, violence, action and passion. It's probably the bright red color that Mars shines with when seen through a telescope and it's actually one of the brightest objects in the night sky.

MARS IN VEDIC ASTROLOGY

In 'Vedic' astrology, Mars of 'Kuja' is the planet of action, passion, sex, violence, focus, will power and risk.

Mars is actually called 'Bhumi Putra' (Son of the Earth) in 'Vedic' astrology, culture and literature. It is associated with the 'Narasimha avatar' of Lord Vishnu.


Mars also represents fire, firearms, uniformed & militaristic professions, knives, and tools, competitions, bodybuilding, sports etc.

So when you have your Mars retrograde, it first of all means from an astronomical perspective that at the time from the observation point of the Earth, Mars seemed to be actually moving backwards in the sky.

Retrograde Mars means that the 'karma' of Mars in your life is quite prominent and you are meant to develop this energy by encountering a LOT of it in your life.

Quite often Mars retrograde people can encounter quite a bit of this energy in their lives and often from sources that they least expect (because that is the nature of Mars, the sudden surprise element).

Mars retrograde people may have to face a lot of life circumstances where they were indirectly put into situations where they had no other choice but to come out 'all guns blazing' in a typical Martian fashion.

'VAKRI' Mars OR 'RETROGRADE' Mars is considered by many an 'affliction' to the chart. Quite often it can be interpreted as an energy that can cause a lot unfortunate events in the native's life.

It is true that it can often lead to an individual facing a lot of sudden, challenging, difficult circumstances which may well come in the form of accidents, conflicts, an abusive partner etc. however Mars retrograde need not really be that way if the native can find a constructive way to provide an outlet for that energy.

Another very important thing to note here is that when a planet is retrograde, the native is 'forced' to develop this energy quite often coming from a 'backlog'. So Mars retrograde individuals quite often come from being lethargic and unfocussed to becoming a focused, daring and rebellious individual.

So this is why you will often see the 'go getters', the 'rebels' and the free thinking adventurers with Mars retrograde in their birth charts.
