I try to build a viking ship. #6 Almost done! Building interior, flotation, water ballast, finishing

OK so it leaks. Sue me. I think it's pretty incredible that it looks like an actual boat. Also, do you know how hard it is to epoxy glue these irregular parts all together? Well I also had no idea when I started.

This video starts with the staggering death toll that this boat has even before the first coast is plundered!

For me one takeaway from this part of the process was: Plywood does not shrink or grow depending on weather. Fir does. Combining these two is going to cause splits in your fir. So, next time the rowing benches would also be made of plywood.

Also in this video: When actively boating we wouldn't put cushioning on the benches, but hey, when you're chilling out it's nice. So we home spun and wove long and narrow blankets that are just the right size when folded once. Can double as blankets.
Also looking back the water ballast (though very effective and user friendly) is a much too complicated design. In a next boat (never going to happen, but OK) I would go for a single level version with less valves (in stead of my current four valves and one inspection hatch I would go for one hole in the outside of the boat for water, and one valve on the inside. Air movement be damned.)
