Stripping Furniture with Laser

Dan's son Arthur demonstrates a new tool that removes varnish from furniture using a laser. The tool is new to the market and Arthur researched and purchased one to help reduce the amounts of chemicals used and speed up the stripping process.

We purchased a 100 watt machine if we had it to do again we would have gotten the 200 watt machine.
If we were removing pieces with large amounts of paint we would even consider the 300 watt machine.
The 100 watt machine works well on lacquer and shellac but struggles with paint, especially the primer and oil-based urethanes

The Positives are many, especially in corners and carvings that are very difficult to strip with chemicals.
Usually, the only sanding needed is to open the grain back up so material can penetrate it.

Dan’s Story
I started my furniture restoration business thinking I would be a small shop and hoped to keep the lights on. We focused on a quality product and accepting the challenges that each piece had. My son Arthur came to help with the work and added skills and talented we needed.

“It will never leave my shop until it is good enough to brag about”(and I like to brag).
Every time we repair something it keeps it out of the landfill and keeps another tree from being cut down to replace it.
The more we share our knowledge the more times this happens.

We work on all types of pieces, from brand new pieces damaged in shipping to antiques that are hundreds of years old.

I’m going to be honest, I never envisioned my business developing into where we are today.
We have 2 shops, we have worked for museums, rock stars, actors, athletes and were asked to consult on the Queen Mary.
