Removing Skunks in Crawlspaces, Under Sheds, and Under Porches

I definitely do not recommend picking up a wild skunk and holding it like you see in the video. It will spray you! This is also not a pet skunk. This skunk was removed from a customers house like I said in the video. I prefer not to trap skunks if at all possible and I encourage my customers to use the one way door like shown in the video. One way doors allow the skunks to leave your home with the least amount of fuss and trouble. The skunk leaves the area and is not stuck in the trap waiting for something to come along and make it upset enough to spray. Skunks that are in a trap will be more anxious when approached and much more likely to spray.

I think that is because wildlife controllers have not taken it on themselves to educate the public regarding this option and they are not aware of its benefits. One way doors also allow ALL the animals inside the building to leave. If there are 12 opossums, 5 groundhogs, and 14 skunks (this would be a truly unusual situation) they can all leave through the same one way door. This feature is very handy when there is a momma skunk with a litter under a home and the babies are old enough to be out following momma around. However, one way doors will not get baby skunks out of the nest if they are not ambulatory. That is a different problem altogether. When I start each project there is a decision making process that you have to go through to pick the best option for the customer.
