Filmed at Miller's Leisure Centre, Chapel St Leonards on June 8th 2017.
Manufactured by RG Mitchell of Skegness, the Captain Pugwash ride was released at the ATEI in January 2000. The ride takes the form of Pugwash's ship, The Black Pig. Captain Pugwash himself stands on the prow of the ship, saluting, seemingly unaware of Cut Throat Jake sneaking up behind him...
Despite being quite large, this ride was a huge success and could be seen outside many arcades around the time of its release. Alas, few of the remaining examples have escaped age-related flaws.
This model showed the usual problem; none of the sound effect buttons worked! At least the pictures are still visible on the buttons on this example though, unlike the one I filmed at Hemsby.
I am currently working on a website about coin operated rides, particularly those made (or at least commonly distributed) in the UK during the 1950s-90s. Please visit http://www.coinoperatedrides.weebly.com! If anybody has old photos/video footage that they wouldn't mind sharing with me, please e-mail me at [email protected] or leave a comment below. I would be eternally grateful. Thank you! :)
