Spring is finally starting here in Slovenia and I wanted to soak up some sun so I have decided to hike Pohorje, a mountain range that rises southern of Maribor and is best known for its "Golden Fox" competition, women's World Cup races in giant slalom and slalom, held since 1964.
I hiked to Bellevue at 1050m, with my glider and wasn't really sure the conditions on top will be in my favor to make a flight. Take-off is facing N-NE and the forecast was NE wind but while I was hiking, checking on my phone, the weather station at the top was constantly showing me the South wind. And most of the hike even felt completely calm and zero winds. Except for that surprising dust devil.
Arriving at the top I was pleasantly surprised by the occasional, mild N wind, took my time to observe the conditions, got ready, and took off...
