Dr. Linda Candy talks about reflective practice and the role of artefacts in practice-based research. In practice-based PhDs, reflective practice is a core research method used to record, monitor and interpret emerging practitioner defined knowledge. Examples from Film, Media and Art Technology PhD programmes and show how reflection has been important in artefact led research practice.
Linda has a deep and enduring interest in how creative practitioners think and create works. For over 30 years, she has studied artists, designers and technologists and the role of digital systems in amplifying and transforming their creativity. Her books include The Creative Reflective Practitioner (2020), Explorations in Art and Technology (2002, 2018), Interactive Experience in the Digital Age: Evaluating New Art Practice (2014) (with Dr Sam Ferguson) and Interacting: Art, Research and the Creative Practitioner (2011). She is author and consulting editor of The Routledge International Handbook of Practice-Based Research (2022).
