2007 Subaru outback (Legacy Wagon style) NON-TURBO 2.5L SOHC flat 4 cylinder automatic trans but standard Subaru AWD! SUBARU awesome that way!
THIS IS A NON CVT.
ALL CVTs are JUNK!
CVT = Continuously Variable Transmission
WARNING WARNING WARNING! - Mongo has never found a good CVT they all fail early, none have any resemblance of durability or performance. Do yourself a favor get yourself a car with a real tranny.
If you want to replace your transmission pan gasket and filter on your Subaru non CVT then THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO for you!
Car been running really well no issues so Mongo think it time to fix the leaking transmission oil pan gasket. If you remember when we do the engine removal we noticed a small oil drip on the concrete under the tranny.
Be sure to follow proper repair standards and best practices on your application using your applications service manuals and specs.
Get the car jacked up in the front so we can safely crawl underneath. We can see the back of the trans pan is wet. This wetness is evidence of oil leaking out of the gasket.
Mongo put down some cardboard cause often there will be unforeseen oil spills and Mongo no want mess on floor. Start with draining the trans oil - be sure to capture used oil and recycle it. Then remove the external oil filter. Once oil is drained reinstall the trans pan drain bolt and torque to spec. Then remove all the trans pan bolts. The RTV is usually securing the pan to the transmission, use a flat head screwdriver to slide between the pan and transmission gently pry the pan away. May need to do this in a few spots to gently pry the pan away (try not to gouge the sealing surfaces) Once down CLEAN everything! Inside the pan, the magnet and gasket surfaces. Mongo use the razor blade and wire brush to clean gasket surfaces. This trans have the 3 bolt internal filter so remove those and pull the filter out. There is an O ring on the circle end / tube of the filter make sure it comes out with the filter. If not use a small pick to remove it from the transmission. Install the new filter but make sure the new O ring is on the new filter. Can use a little ATF fluid to lube the O ring to help it slide into place without damage. secure the internal filter with the bolts. Mongo Using Grey RTV to make a trans pan gasket and secure the oil pan to the transmission with the bolts. Make sure to fill the transmission with the proper amount of new oil before operating the vehicle. Most transmissions need to be running to check the fluid level properly
External oil filter PN (AutoZone) = TF94
Internal oil filter PN (AutoZone) = TF704
Grey RTV in a tube (high torque gasket RTV)
Oil amount = recovered about 6qts ... ish. REFILLED - 7 quarts.
Oil type = Subaru ATF - HP spec
Oil drain pan plug = 18lbs/ft (17mm bolt)
Trans filter bolts = 7.5 Nm (10mm bolts)
Trans pan bolt = 80 lbs/inch (10mm bolts) Mongo did NOT use the 2 step recommended in the instructions.
THANK YOU SUBARU for putting a good oil pan drain plug on the transmission oil pan! MONGO REALLY APPRECIATE IT!
Hopefully this video helps you if you have a Subaru outback that needs to have the transmission oil pan gasket replaced or if you want to replace the oil and filters on your transmission.
