In this brief talk, I reflect on the Qur’anic command:
“And fulfil \[every] commitment. Indeed, the commitment is ever \[that about which one will be] questioned.” (Surah Al-Isra 17:34)
Keeping promises is a mark of integrity in Islam. From everyday words like “Wallahi” and “Kasme” to serious commitments like marriage vows, business dealings, and responsibilities of leadership — every promise matters and will be questioned by Allah on the Day of Judgement.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ warned that breaking promises is one of the signs of hypocrisy, and even in his youth, he showed us the seriousness of keeping one’s word.
