Indian cricketer Karsan Ghavri gives an exclusive interview to Vickey Lalwani, where he drops a sensational statement that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were told to leave. It wasn't form, it wasn't fitness... it was internal politics that forced both these legends of Indian cricket to retire from Test cricket, says Ghavri. There have been reports, there have been rumours, there have been endless debates... but Karsan Ghavri has now gone on record.
This statement comes on the back of rumours that Shubman Gill, who was Ghavri's discovery, may be made the all-format captain, and that both Kohli and Rohit will be forced to retire from the ODI format as well, despite both of them having said that they want to play the 2027 ODI World Cup. In fact, Vikrant Gupta, veteran cricket journalist at India Today and @SportsTak had even reported that Rishabh Pant was being considered as Test captain before Gill, but Pant refused to lead a team without Rohit and Kohli, because of which Gill was given the job.
Ghavri also looks back at his career in this nostalgic, free-flowing conversation. Why did Ghavri retire at an early age and which Indian cricketer was responsible for the same? Why did Sunil Gavaskar refuse to meet the Prime Minister? What explains Gavaskar's innings of 36* in 60 overs, in India's first ever World Cup match, in 1975? How has Indian cricket changed after the arrival of coach Gautam Gambhir? Why should Shubman Gill keep his temper and emotions in check? How should Sachin Tendulkar have handled the insult of Tiger Pataudi after the trophy between India and England was renamed as the Anderson Tendulkar trophy?
Also, find out how Karsan Ghavri become friends with people in the Hindi film industry, and his equation with Salim Khan, father of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. Nobody can be better than Dilip Kumar, he says... guess how many times Karsan Ghavri has seen Mughal-E-Azam!
