A substructure located ca. 60 m north of the İncili Köşk (Pearl Kiosk) and near the Marmara shore has traditionally been associated with the Church of Christos Soter Philanthropos. However, more current research indicates that the remnant must have belonged to the Church of Christos Soter Pephaneromenos. Inside the substructure was a holy spring where people, and even the emperor, sought healing in the Byzantine period.
The arrangement of the 20 m wide façade reflects the interior, with a large arch and two flanking side openings. The arch, 10 m in height, was blocked at a later period, while a smaller, arched passageway and an arched window on top of it were created. As the lower section remains under the current ground level, it is not possible to determine the original height. The façade was decorated with brick ornaments and niches—the northernmost two of those niches are situated on the wall section, which stands in front of the abovementioned tower of Theophilos. A swastika frieze runs on both side of the central arch, along the façade. The undeciphered brick inscription that once lay above the frieze is no longer extant. Zigzag patterns decorating the niches’ interiors, heart motifs on the wall and rosettes can be distinguished despite their damaged condition.

Cu toate acestea, cercetări mai actuale indică faptul că vestigiile trebuie să fi aparținut Bisericii lui Christos Soter Pephaneromenos. În interiorul substructurii era un izvor sfânt unde oamenii, și chiar împăratul, căutau vindecare în perioada bizantină.
Dispunerea fatadei late de 20 m reflecta interiorul, cu un arc mare si doua deschideri laterale flancatoare. Arcul, de 10 m înălțime, a fost blocat într-o perioadă ulterioară, în timp ce s-a creat un pasaj mai mic, arcuit și o fereastră arcuită deasupra acesteia. Deoarece secțiunea inferioară rămâne sub nivelul actual al solului, nu este posibilă determinarea înălțimii inițiale. Fațada a fost decorată cu ornamente din cărămidă și nișe - cele mai nordice două dintre aceste nișe sunt situate pe secțiunea de zid, care se află în fața turnului menționat mai sus al lui Theophilos. O friză cu svastică se întinde pe ambele părți ale arcului central, de-a lungul fațadei. Inscripția nedescifrată din cărămidă care stătea cândva deasupra frizei nu mai există. Modelele în zig-zag care decorează interioarele nișelor, motivele inimii pe perete și rozetele pot fi distinse în ciuda stării lor deteriorate.
