This video covers the full Lower Yough whitewater kayaking run from my first person perspective. The objective of the video is to provide an overview of the run for newer boaters, and to help viewers understand what’s going on in my head as I paddle.

In this video, I’m paddling my Dagger Code L. It’s a huge boat, with tons of bow and stern volume. I call mine the “Queen Mary” because of its size. The amount of air trapped in this boat, along with the aggressive rocker (elf-shoe style bow or stern curve) helps the whole boat surface quickly when submerged, ride over holes or waves, and its general size promotes insane stability. In other words, it’s almost like cheating: this boat saves me from the consequences of my numerous mistakes.

It is not my boat of choice for this run- I would have preferred to be in my Dagger Rewind L or my Jackson Rockstar V L. This water is not pushy or steep enough to really require that I paddle a creekboat- despite that, I make plenty of mistakes as usual. The ultimate reason I’m paddling the Code on this run is that I’m off to Valley Falls, WV the next day. There, I will run my first waterfall. My nerves about that led me to bring the Code… video incoming!

One last note: my paddling here is not great, but I am happy with my management of Dimple, as well as several little boofs I was able to hit!
