SPEAKER BIO
Liz Slagus is a Brooklyn-based artist, curator, educator, and writer who is committed to sexual health not being a game of chance. She is pursuing a MEd in Human Sexuality Studies at Widener University to fortify her toolkit for the pursuit of reproductive justice and holistic sexual health for all. Slagus specializes in art/science collaborations, public programming, and community engagement, and has designed and produced residencies and program series with/for Eyebeam, the State Library of Queensland, EMPAC, the New York Hall of Science, and currently, FEED Media Art Center. In 2009, Slagus co-founded SexEd to produce a social practice-based body of art and curatorial projects that took the shape of sexual health campaigns, exhibitions, a sex ed salon with over 1,000 teenagers, after-school programs, and a course at Parsons - The New School; all documented as the sex ed that doesn’t exist in the US. Motivated by the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and lack of research, information, and public knowledge about topics such as menopause and pleasure, Slagus has created the Sex Ed Bakeshop, a new platform for fun, safe, and inclusive sexuality education. She holds a BA in Art History and Anthropology from Bucknell University and a MA in Visual Arts Administration from NYU.
Recorded Tuesday, July 22nd.
