This is a remake of the first in a series of instructional videos produced for Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) almost five decades ago. “Introduction to the PDP-11” initially consisted of a set of 16mm filmstrip-sound cartridges and accompanying workbooks. It was used to train hundreds of DEC field service personnel, replacing traditional classroom instruction with onsite training. Later it was converted to VHS videotapes, which were sold to PDP-11 users.
The study unit featured here (the first of nine) is an overview of the PDP-11, offering a brief glimpse of what computers were like in the mid-1970’s. The technology has certainly made enormous advances.
