We’re back at our tenant farmer house preservation project—and this time, it’s not glamorous.
Inside this 100+ year old house, there’s a thick layer of rat droppings across the floor, and I’ve come prepared with a shop vac, gloves, and a mask to start cleaning. These houses are often overlooked and left to rot—but we’re working to save this one.
But just as I start making progress... I have to stop.
In the middle of the mess, I discover something unexpected: a nest of baby birds tucked away in the very room I’m trying to clean. It’s a reminder that even in decay, life finds a way—and why these forgotten places are worth preserving.
This is what real preservation looks like. It's not always pretty—but it always matters.
Preservation isn’t always grand reveals and monuments—it’s dirt, dust, and sometimes even rat poop. But every piece of history matters.
