Have you ever noticed than when you order a new cassette or hub for your bike that it will point out that it is HG (Hyperglide) compatible without any mention of the hub body length. If you purchase a HG 35mm cassette for an HG 36.8mm hub it will not fit tight, if you purchase a HG 36.8mm cassette for a HG 35mm hub, it will not fit (at least properly).
In this video I briefly talk about spoke length and rim alignment.
