The Pajero Sport now stands as the flagship frame-based SUV for Mitsubishi, following the discontinuation of the larger Pajero SUV. The updated model showcases a new Dynamic Shield front fascia with a dual-layer headlight configuration. Based on customer feedback, the tail lights were shortened for a more refined appearance. Other improvements include the Auto Hold parking brake, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, and an 8-inch infotainment system with navigation, 360-degree surround cameras, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A hands-free powered tailgate has also been added for added convenience.
Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design gives the Pajero Sport a bold exterior, while the interior is centered around a T-Shape High Console that echoes the layout of the Triton. The SUV comes with an array of active safety features and is powered by the new 4N15 2.4L MIVEC diesel engine. It also includes Super-Select 4WD-II, Mitsubishi’s advanced four-wheel-drive system, which offers an off-road mode and hill descent control.
Globally, the Pajero Sport (also known as Montero Sport) comes with three engine options. The 4D56 DI-D common rail engine generates 136 PS (100 kW; 134 hp) and 324 N⋅m (239 lb⋅ft) of torque, paired with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission, depending on the trim. The more powerful 4N15 MIVEC with Variable Geometry Turbo produces 181 PS (133 kW; 179 hp) and 430 N⋅m (317 lb⋅ft) of torque and is available with a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. For those seeking petrol power, the 3.0L 6B31 MIVEC V6 engine comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
At launch, the third-generation Pajero Sport was offered in three trims: GLS Limited, GT, and GT Premium, all featuring the 2.4-litre 4N15 MIVEC VGT diesel engine. In Australia, three trim levels—GLX, GLS, and Exceed—were initially available, with a flagship GSR trim introduced in 2022. All trims are powered by the same 2.4-litre 4N15 diesel engine. A facelifted version was launched in May 2024, with all variants featuring 4WD.
In the Philippines, the Pajero Sport, marketed as the Montero Sport, was introduced in 2016 with four variants, all powered by the 2.4-litre 4N15 MIVEC VGT diesel engine. A second facelift arrived in June 2024, featuring updated trims including the Black Series with turbine-style 18-inch gloss black alloy wheels and a redesigned front bumper.
The third-generation Pajero Sport was introduced in Vietnam in 2016, initially with a 3.0-litre 6B31 V6 petrol engine. The facelifted version, featuring the 2.4-litre 4N15 MIVEC VGT diesel engine, debuted later with two variants. In Mexico, the Montero Sport is available with a 3.0-litre 6B31 V6 engine across three trims, ES, SE, and SE Plus. The Shogun Sport made its UK debut in 2018 with two trims—'3' and '4', powered by the 2.4-litre 4N15 MIVEC VGT diesel engine.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport offers a range of Specs that cater to various markets, and in Australia, the price ranges from $40,040 to $66,110.
