This was a viewer requested song. Poor Frank got choked and had to quit singing at the end....He still did a fabulous job. John Burbach on a 1994 Gibson Humminbird, Gordon Cooper on drums and I'm playing a 1997 Bourgeois Country Boy, Ricky Skaggs Signature Model.
Mellencamp wrote and released this song in 1983. He got the song idea while driving to his hometown from the Indianapolis airport. He saw a black man sitting on his front porch with his cat watching traffic. The song was intended to be a lesson on race, class and survival in America and was meant to be sarcastic and cynical. The song actually became embraced by America.
It reached #8 on the BillBoard Hot 100 in 1984. We hope you like our version.
