In the late 70s and early 80s, fantastic, scale length SNCF Corail coach kits were produced by the companies Cemp and Mougel. The initial bogie design was awesome (and incredibly difficult to assemble). The suspension was accurately modelled, including independently moving and sprung wheelbox mounts (I have included a picture in the video- they are something to behold!). I managed to buy a job lot of these coaches. Three were unmade, but the under frame plastic had gone brittle. This made assembly an utter nightmare (just screwing in the bogies caused breakages, and the steps fell off), but now they are together they look great. Due to the realistic modelling of the bogies and bogie surrounds, you will not get these coaches around radius 1 curves. In fact mine are happiest on my outer circuit, which is radius 4 minimum! The problem appears to be with the previously assembled coaches, though I can't quite find what. The ones I built myself are much more reliable. I was going to fit all the coaches with close couplings, but decided to keep the originals. I wanted to preserve the original look of the coaches, and also I did not want to upset the brittle framed coaches!! In this video, you can see two really rare versions- a 75 series non air conditioned brake coach, and a version with the 80s series sliding doors. I also have a 1st class sleeper, and a C1 liveried coach that do not appear in this video.
Motive power is a Roco BB15000, with the original non symmetrical grilles. The train represents an express c1984.
The other train is hauled by a Jouef BB15000, from the late 70s. This is actually a great looking model, somewhat let down by a quirky rubber band drive. The drive band is new, but it was having some odd moments before the video (lots of slipping in the pulley), but it decided to behave well for filming. The train is formed of a Jouef Grill Express (this brushes up nicely with an interior and correct bogies perloined from Jouef Grand Confort), Lima open Corails, Roco Corridor Corail and finally a Jouef 75 brake. The Jouef Corails also come up well with a bit of work and actually go well with the Mougel cars.
Finally, my recently purchased BB12000 can be seen occasionally hauling a freight. Unfortunately, it also has a rubber band drive, which started to play up during filming.
