San Francisco – the very hub of the tech industry in California – this week banned the use of artificial intelligence or AI in facial recognition of subjects. (Subscribe: https://bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
The reliability of the system has been called into question over failures to satisfactorily distinguish the features of black people and particularly black women.
Here in the UK, the government has set up an official unit to investigate bias in facial recognition and other aspects of Artificial Intelligence.
