Ashwath Narayanan (Born July 4, 1991), a promising Carnatic vocalist, is known for his adherence to tradition while carving out his own musical identity. Initiated into music at the age of four, he first trained under Smt. Jayalakshmi Sundararajan before coming under the tutelage of the legendary Palghat K. V. Narayanaswamy from 1998 until the maestro’s passing in 2002, after which he continued with Smt. Padma Narayanaswamy. A graduate in Industrial Biotechnology from SASTRA University, Thanjavur, Ashwath quickly rose to prominence by winning the Tanishq Swarna Sangeetham competition and The Hindu–Saregama M.S. Subbulakshmi Award (2013). His style reflects the depth and precision of the K.V.N. bani, with lucid raga essays, sensitive gamaka handling, and rhythmic clarity, while also displaying individuality and creativity. Performing widely in Chennai’s Margazhi season and across India, Ashwath Narayanan is celebrated not just as a talented musician but also as a devoted practitioner who views Carnatic music as both an art form and a spiritual pursuit.
