Hey, it's Ethan here at etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at showing you how to install the Konig XG-12 Pro Self-Tensioning Diamond Pattern Snow Tire Chains on our 2022 Toyota Tacoma. These are gonna be on tire size 275/70 R16. Make sure you check the fit guide on etrailer.com to get the right chains for your tire size. We also have them on the rear axle in our case as per owner's manual. Make sure you're double checking that too to get the chains in the right axle for your car.

But let's check out a little bit more about them. These are gonna be a premium option for your snow tire chains. So if you live in an area that gets a decent amount of moderate snow and light ice pretty frequently, these are gonna be a really great option for you. They have that diamond pattern that I mentioned, which gets you a lot of great coverage on the tire. Really helps a lot with turning, and you're gonna feel them typically a lot less than your ladder pattern style chains.

The chains do have these square length, which are really low profile, but there's still going to be a shape that's gonna allow you to bite into that snow and maybe that light ice that I mentioned. So that'll do well for that. And also there are these traction plates here where they connect, which are also gonna help bust through some of that ice and get you a better grip. The chains are made of a manganese nickel alloy, so they're gonna be really sturdy and gonna hold up well for multiple seasons against rust, weather and corrosion. Much better than a low carbon steel chain would.

Coming to the front of the chains now, we can see that this is a slightly different color. It's because these links on the inside are powder coated, not only to protect your tire and the rims, but also to protect your hands in the event that you're putting these chains on, it's really cold out, your hands are gonna tend to stick to bare metal a little bit more than they would to that powder coat, so that's a nice touch. As well as we can see here our self-tensioning mechanism, which is it's really nice that it's installed, it's gonna constantly be putting tension on your chains. So normally you would have to get out and adjust your chains after so long to make sure everything's in place. This eliminates the need for that.

The chains do come two to a set and this hard protective outer shell case, which is really nice. It does a great job of keeping the chains compact and secure. Taking a look inside and see that the other chains are in there, as well as these bumpers. We can put those on if we want to where some of the intersections occur on our tire, just for a little bit of extra protection. As is the case of this instructional video, I'm not gonna put them on, but you might want to in your case. On the backside, there's also this hook and loop patch, so if you have an interior that that could stick to, it might prevent it from sliding around in your car a little bit. Just another little quality of life feature. But overall, one thing that does set these chains apart is how easy they are to install. Granted, we always do recommend giving it a try in your garage or somewhere safe beforehand before you find yourself stranded on the side of the road trying to figure it out, but you can check out how we did it right now. First thing we like to do for the install is to lay the chains out flat. We just wanna make sure that nothing is caught up or twisted or tangled. We wanna make sure that we have this gap here in the middle. That's where our tire is gonna go. We wanna make sure that we have the chains facing the right way. An easy way to do so with these chains is to look at this Konig logo on the self-tensioning mechanism. Making sure that that is face down i a good sign that you have the chains the right way. Or we get to come up and take a look at these hoops at the end of each set of links. If this side is facing up, that's a good sign. We wanna make sure that this is touching the tread of our tires, rather than these hooks on the other end. Now we'll start by draping one of the sides around the back side of the tire. I like to do the side without the self-tensioning cable 'cause that's just a little bit longer and that tends to get stuck a little bit easier. So we just wanna make sure that we find that gap that we set for ourselves earlier where the tire's supposed to go. Spread eve
