Pour yourself a glass of your favourite tipple, sit back and open up your ears to this luxurious operatic overture music box, produced in 1880.
Opening up with the rousing overture from Daniel Auber's Le Domino Noir (The Black Domino) from 1837. Followed by Rossini's spectacular 1829 overture from William Tell. Next up, Auber's genius can be heard once again, as we take in the overture from his 1828 opera, La Muette de Portici (The Mute Girl of Portici). And finally Friedrich von Flotow dazzles us with his overture from the legendary 1847 opera, Martha.
Each one of these sublime operatic delights, are performed by a Victorian overture music box, crafted in Switzerland during the 1880's. It's truly astonishing to hear music of this richness and quality, flowing out of this wooden box, but to those Victorian craftsman that made it happen, I take off my (top) hat.
