These 6 examples are from shortest to longest distance that the sound travels from the drums to the capsule:
Boundary 2m
Drums 2m
Corner 5.5m
Wall 9m
Droom 11m
Outside 16m (this is more a reverb chamber than a room mic, but a really cool one!)
Every recording room is different, so find the placement in your room that works for the song!
The Droom setup is from Moses Schneider and is quite genius, no phase issues (slap delay) and the traveling distance of the sound is double the room length. Since I only have one Sennheiser MD441, I used a Revox M3500 because it is also a dynamic super-cardioide. They both should sound more or less the same, so I EQ-mached the M3500 to the MD441.
Droom is awesome, I really love it!
To avoid phase issues I delayed the close mics to the distance of the mics, except the Droom mics, they don’t need it.
0:00 Stereo Raw
1:14 Stereo Comperssed
2:28 Mono Raw
3:42 Mono Compressed
