Hey, everybody. Ryan here at etrailer. Today, on our 2022 Toyota Prius, we're gonna be showing you how to install the EcoHitch trailer hitch receiver. But before we do that, why don't we check it out and make sure it's gonna be the right hitch for you Even though the Prius is more of a compact-type car, it doesn't mean you can't use it to do a lot of different things. And it seems like a lot of Prius owners out there like to use bike racks, maybe cargo carriers when you're going on a trip. Or even pulling around some light trailers, you know, maybe a kayak trailer, something along them lines.

So having a hitch back here is gonna really open up your opportunities on what you can use your Prius for. Just to kinda compare this hitch to some of the other ones available, honestly, if I was gonna put a hitch on my Prius, this is probably the one I'd definitely lean towards. And that's really for one big reason. And that is the fact that this one has a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening. So this opening's a little bit larger compared to the other ones, which have the smaller inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter opening.

So more or less, what that means is this one is going to be much more versatile. A lot more accessories and things of that nature are gonna be able to work with this hitch as opposed to the other ones. Not to mention too, this one is going to have some higher weight capacities, right So definitely can't go wrong there. Even if you're not gonna be pushing limits by any means, in my opinion, it's always nice to have a little overkill and give you that extra peace of mind. So looking at the hitch, we kinda talked about it having that larger two inch by two inch opening.

It's gonna have a reinforced collar there at the end for some extra strength, and honestly, I like the look of it too. Makes it look more finished. It's gonna have a kind of a hammer tone powder coat finish so should hold up for some time. And kinda as a bonus as well, this is actually made from recycled materials. So as far as that goes, you know, every little bit helps.

It is going to use that standard 5/8 pin and clip. Keep in mind though, pin and clip does not come included. If you need one, not really a big deal. You can always grab it here at etrailer. The safety chain openings are gonna be a plate-style and are relatively large and should allow us to use just about any size hook that we might have. As far as the hitch's weight capacities go, the numbers are gonna be pretty decent. The maximum gross tongue weight rating is gonna be 375 pounds. That's gonna be the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. So that's good for those one to four-bike racks, just to give you an example. As far as the hitch's maximum gross trailer weight rating goes, that's gonna be 2,500 pounds. And that's gonna be the amount of weight pulling on the hitch. So weight of your trailer plus anything that you might have on it. I do always like to suggest though, never a bad idea just to grab your Toyota's owner's manual. That way, you can make sure your Prius can pull that much weight safely. Now, I'm gonna give you a couple of measurements, and you can use these to help figure out which hitch-mounted accessories to get. From the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening, that's gonna be about 13 1/2 inches. So if you do plan on pulling a trailer around, chances are really good you're gonna need to get a ball mount that has a rise in the shank. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, that's gonna be about two inches. And you can use that measurement to help figure out that if any folding accessories you might have can be stored in an upright position without contacting your bumper. But other than that, at the end of the day, a hitch you really can't go wrong with. You know it's going to be really versatile, have the highest weight ratings, and in my opinion, I think it looks pretty good too. You know, it definitely doesn't look out of place by any means. As far as the installation goes, I was actually pleasantly surprised. It really wasn't too bad. You do have to remove the fascia, but Toyota made it pretty easy to do that. All the fasteners are easy to get to and see, and everything else like that. So as long as you take your time, you really shouldn't run into too many issues.
