Enid Isada Jackson: A Legacy of Love and Service
In Thompson Town's embrace, 1931 saw her dawn,
To Jo King and Una Pennant, a star brightly drawn.
A journey from Jamaica's fields to England's noble lands,
Enid Jackson is a woman of purpose with gentle, healing hands.
A teacher first, her path then turned to healing arts,
A nurse, a midwife, with dedication in her heart.
The first Black Midwifery Officer in Central Middx's halls,
She shattered ceilings and broke down mighty walls.
With certificates in research, teaching, and care,
Her knowledge vast, her wisdom rare.
From midwifery's embrace to a Senior Nursing post,
Her career is a testament to what she valued most.
Her heart, though, led her further, where compassion calls,
To counsel the bereaved, to break youth's despairing walls.
A board member in Brent, giving youths one final chance,
Her spirit of mercy in each circumstance.
Tragedy struck but birthed a cause profound,
When dementia claimed her mother, a mission she found.
Culture Dementia UK, Her Legacy in bloom,
Awareness spread like seeds, dispelling darkness and gloom.
A pioneer in understanding, she saw the unseen,
Vascular dementia's grip in communities between.
With tireless zeal, she fought, she spoke, she changed,
Lives transformed, futures rearranged.
Her accolades abundant, her honours widespread,
From the Queen's Living Legend to the Wise Women's Stead.
The Gloria Brown Award, Brent's Champion too,
AA4SUCCESS in 2016, all accolades were due.
Her garden, a canvas of nature's delight,
With flowers blooming, it is a captivating sight.
From worldly travels, seeds she'd retrieve,
In her garden's glory, her soul found reprieve.
Music filled her home, a legacy of sound,
Her children, her grandchildren, in melody bound.
Floyd with his trumpet, Jamal's piano grand,
Her legacy in music, through every loving hand.
As a mother, a wife, an auntie, a gem,
In the family's heart, she was the stem.
Together now, with Daddy, vows renewed in rest,
In peace eternal, they are blessed.
A reader, a seeker of knowledge profound,
Her childhood whispers of books still resound.
Three times of her poetry, emotions in ink,
"Precious Moments," "Reflections," moments to think.
Enid Jackson, a beacon, a life so well-lived,
In hearts, she remains, a love so profoundly sieved.
Her legacy of service, her family's guiding light,
In every act of kindness, her spirit takes flight.
Rest now, dear Enid, in the peace you've earned,
Your life's noble chapters, in our hearts, forever burned.
