The Fortress of Louisbourg in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia is a staple of any guide to 18th Century, Colonial North America. Here we saw the French and British fight for control of this site. Louisbourg the key to control over North America. The Fortress eventually succumbing to this power struggle, destroyed during the Seven Years' War. And, while it is known for a lot of things (its impressive reconstruction, its environment, its destruction, among others), we are going to talk about its often overlooked, but critical attribute - Louisbourg's harbour! Because this is where the real seat of power lay; a small protected harbour in the North Atlantic, which could make or break the struggle for control of North America.

We’re Lauren and Alex, the creators behind Blue Lobster Tales. And we’re here to bring history to life! Blue Lobster, our sailboat and namesake, is how we will explore long-forgotten people, places and things. And we’ll bring you this history in creative ways – filming every step of the way. Our goal is to bridge the gap between academics and fast history, to engage in accessible, in-depth, analytical history. Over the next few years, we will sail Atlantic Canada (learning along the way), exploring this region through the lens of the Age of Sail, a period very much neglected. So, come along for the ride!
Follow us on our journey to explore the history of the Atlantic world, one nautical mile at a time...
