Frosty 12.5k: POV Race. Could I Beat Craig Engels?

The Frosty Fifty in Winston-Salem, North Carolina consists of 4 distinct events: the 50k (four laps of the course), the 25k (two laps), the 12.5k (one lap), and the 50k relay (each of up to four runners runs a lap). This year, I had big aspirations of setting a 50k PR, especially since the event is the RRCA North Carolina 50k championship. However, after banging up my knee nearly two weeks ago, I dropped down to the 12.5k to be safe. Luckily for me (or unluckily), USA middle distance champion and Nike pro athlete Craig Engels also registered for the 12.5k. Was I able to compete in a deep field that included one of running’s best?
