Julie Hauserman's short narration “Florida's Lost Waterfall: Cascades Park” that one can find included in “Between two Rivers: Stories from the Red Hills to the Gulf”, offers a compelling account on how the Cascades Park came about. The park, located just across the Florida Capitol, acquired its name from a former cascade(s) that human activity in just a few years had entirely obliterated. For its incomparable beauty in the early 19th century this area was selected for the construction of the Florida Capitol. In short time the actual Cascade Park area, from a refreshing swimming hole became a dump, and a chemical discharging pit for a nearby gasification plat. Mortally wounded the area was then revitalized by the Cascades Park project that somehow restored dignity and beauty to what one time was a mesmerizing nature gem. It is worth the time to read Julie Hauserman short account.
