I analyzed Alan Becker's Animation vs Minecraft and how it does its lore and storytelling. Animation vs Minecraft is the sister series to Animation vs Animator.

Notes from the scripts:
while I know Lust isn't just for the funky in most contemporary definitions, I completely meant that context for that massive no. And, by most definitions of Christian text (which is my basis hence Sloth not just being sleepiness), it's primarily associated with the funky (carnal desire) while Greed encapsulates power and wealth.

And let's just say I aint comfy putting that for the lads.

on a side note, while doing this short, I realized that Red doesn't crash out that bad. He has really long patience compared to everyone else.

So, if anyone is...unfortunately curious and because I had to learn this for another fandom.... i'll summarize it a bit.

The difference between Lust, Gluttony, and Greed in the older theological texts is dependent on two things (1) the direction of love towards a subject (2) the deprevation of that subject from others.

Lust, in this regard, is an internal sin. While it can degrade into more sinister acts, lust is inherently an excess of desire to the point of being consumed by that emotion. And in Christian texts, it's carnal desire since that a big nono. This is why chastity is its counterpart. Contemporary texts have expanded on the definition to include any form of passion or emotion though, which is why it's often mixed with Greed.

Gluttony and Greed are more materialistic of the longing sins. Gluttony's a sin because it's the hyperexcess of necessity (food and water). On the surface, it sounds harmless, but it can actually bleedninto overindulgence. This includes the inability to ever satiate that desire. So Blue constantly snacking netherwarts isnt the sin of gluttony, but it's his inability to ever be seemingly satiated no matter how much he eats.

Then Greed is seen as the worst of the three because avarice constitutes two factors (1) an excess of wealth and power to the point of overindulgence but more importantly (2) depriving others from that power by different means. In this situation, it's Purple sacrificing Green and Blue for the sake of the egg, not just Purple wanting the egg. That's the difference. It's also him locking them up for the sake of stealing the block.

The reason it's not JUST lust is because Purple's want for power and approval has actively deprived others of their safety and he's robbed from them.

That's why charity is the heavenly virtue associated with Greed, not just temperence. It's because to counter greed, you have to be willing to give. Which is why I think it's also poetic in this regard for Purple to sacrifice his life in S3.

Sloth's interpretation as being sleep isn't entirely all-compassing but it's the context of Rest vs Passivity and not the actual context of lazing about. Which is why Sloth isn't just inactivity, it's disregard. Someone could be completely awake in their life but they stay ignorant to improving their actions based on the idea of "I dont care and I'm here to do what I wanna do."

Gluttony isn't just food and drinks but the concept of overindulgence in general to the point of detriment. The difference of this with Greed is that Gluttony isn't always paired with the idea of depriving others. It can be completely internal. This includes anyone that has a gaming addiction.

Greed comes with two sides. Not only do you accumulate wealth, you also actively take it way from others. So if I find 100 dollars on the ground out of the blue and keep it, that isn't being greedy, but if I rob someone for 100 dollars thats a different story. It's the clause of depravation that makes it defined as a cardinal sin, which is why charity is used by texts as its juxtaposition. It's not enough you live your life in moderation, but you must also be willing to give love.

lust's broader definitions such as bloodlust or lust for power are contemporary definitions that spur from its original framework as being the sin that focuses on internal desire. The Funkies being primarily its subject are based on the values of Christianity at the time (which is carnal in nature). Hence Chastity is its cardinal virtue in relation to it.

Wrath isn't the complete same as violence but it is a part of it. Wrath also includes internal acts of wanting violence such as wishing harm on others. It is anger in all its facets ; anger towards yourself, anger towards others, and anger towards circumstance. A person can seem completely relaxed on the surface, have no trackrecord of violence, but still be a wrathful person.



Boom. This was all a ploy for me to unleash my unfortunate knowledge of weird books I had to read for theology class.
