インドネシア・バリ島の中でも絶景スポットとして広く知られているウルワツ寺院。

なんと高さ約70メートルの断崖絶壁に建つ寺院と海を見下ろす壮大なロケーションは、
バリ島でも屈指の絶景スポットとして有名です。

バリの伝統的なケチャダンスとファイヤーダンスのパフォーマンスは、ウルワツ寺院のよく知られる見どころのひとつ。
ケチャダンスはバリ古来の土着宗教である太陽崇拝と海から魔物が陸に上がって来ないように祈る儀式が発展したもので、
ヒンドゥー教の古代叙事詩『ラーマーヤナ』を基につくられた物語になっています。

約70メートルの高い崖から夕日をバックに眺めるケチャダンスは圧巻でした。

毎日夕方18時と19時15分からの二部制で、伝統的なケチャのファイヤーダンスが開催されます。日が落ちていくにつれて変わっていく空の色と、
圧巻の迫力を誇るケチャダンスは、ウルワツ寺院を訪れるなら必見！

公演が始まると男性たちの掛け声が響き渡り、ヒンドゥー教の叙事詩ラーマーヤナの物語が、ファイヤーダンスとともに繰り広げられていきます。

公演は二部制ですが、サンセットの時間である18:00にはじまる一部がおすすめ。

基本的に入場料やケチャダンスの鑑賞料は、当日現地で支払いを行います。
ただし、ケチャダンスのチケットは早い者勝ちで、売り切れてしまうことも多いため、早めの購入がおすすめ。

どの席も快適に鑑賞できるつくりになっていますが、とくにバックに夕日が見える方向の席は人気ですが、指定席ではないため良い席はすぐに埋まってしまいます。

夕方に野生のサルをたくさんみかけました。
人間の持ち物をひったくる危険があるので注意が必要です。
飲食物だけでなく、サングラスやカメラ、携帯電話や財布をとられてしまうケースも多発しているそうなので注意しましょう。

【Uluwatu Temple in Bali: Kecak Dance and Fire Dance】

Uluwatu Temple, located in Bali, Indonesia, is widely known as one of the most breathtaking spots on the island. Perched atop a towering cliff approximately 70 meters high, it overlooks the sea, offering a magnificent view that ranks among Bali's top scenic locations.

One of the most famous attractions at Uluwatu Temple is the performance of Bali’s traditional Kecak Dance and Fire Dance. The Kecak Dance has its origins in Bali's indigenous religion, which worships the sun and includes rituals to prevent evil spirits from coming ashore. The dance is based on the ancient Hindu epic "Ramayana."

Watching the Kecak Dance against the backdrop of the setting sun, viewed from the 70-meter-high cliff, was a truly awe-inspiring experience.

The traditional Kecak Fire Dance is performed twice daily, starting at 6:00 PM and 7:15 PM. As the sun sets and the colors of the sky shift, the powerful Kecak Dance becomes even more captivating. It’s a must-see for anyone visiting Uluwatu Temple.

Once the performance begins, the rhythmic chanting of the male performers fills the air, and the story of the Hindu epic "Ramayana" unfolds alongside the dramatic Fire Dance.

Though there are two performances, I recommend attending the 6:00 PM show, as it aligns perfectly with the sunset.

Entrance fees and tickets for the Kecak Dance are generally paid on-site. However, tickets often sell out quickly, so it's a good idea to purchase them early. While all seats offer a good view, those facing the sunset are particularly popular and fill up fast, as seats are not reserved.

In the evening, many wild monkeys can be seen around the area. Be cautious, as they are known to snatch personal belongings. It’s common for sunglasses, cameras, phones, and even wallets to be taken, so make sure to keep a close eye on your items.

The best season to visit Bali is during the dry season, from April to October. Uluwatu Temple is about a one-hour drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport.
