Story of Mookkuthala Temples, consisting of six temples and dieties Durga, Karthyayani, Bhadrakali, Narasimha, Siva and Sastha installed by Jagad Guru Sri Sankara Acharya in Melekav, Keezhekav, Kannenkav, Raktheswaram, Kolencherry and Karuvatt. The Melekav Bhagavathi (Durga) temple is in a area of around seven acres of natural vegetation. Mukthi sthalam, may be the first temple installations of Sankara Acharya during Digvijaya yathra period.
This is the story of Bhadrakali. This episode is also about the story of the famous Mookkuthala Kannenkav Temple where presiding deity is Bhadrakali. Kannenkav is famous for its pooram (ulsavam) which comes on the first Friday of Malayalam month Makaram. The temple is also famous for Karinkali (another form of Goddess Kali) and during the festival thousands of Karinkali’s come to the temple in procession.
