At the Northwoods Cottage, we had two twin bunk beds in our basement bedroom. But frankly, it kind of sucked. They were rickety, and the room just felt cold. So I took them apart and turned them into built-in twin bunks up top, complete with nooks and reading lights. I put a queen below, so now adults can enjoy this room, too. To top it off, we used natural log posts and trim, as well as live-edge butternut for built-in shelves and side tables. There are also some secret cubbies. The bunk setup is more durable, beautiful, and functional, and it didn't cost an arm and a leg.
