The late Ron Williams, who was an NMRA Master Model Railroader, spent 26 years constructing his HO scale empire- the Springfield Terminal. This was his second layout in recent years. His previous one, the freelanced Calico & Turpin Springs, was featured in Model Railroader Magazine in the 1990s. A keen eye will catch some remaining C&TS rolling stock on the Springfield Terminal.
Ron, who was the co-founder of the Ozarks Model Railroad Association, was known throughout the model railroading world. In addition to Model Railroader, his work was featured numerous times on local television stations such as KOLR10.

The expansive Frisco-themed layout, set in the 1970s, includes 100 locomotives and hundreds of freight cars. Ron invited us for the final operating session on the railroad, which was soon thereafter dismantled due to his move to a new home. His plans included building yet another layout. Sadly, Ron passed away in 2020 before his new project could be built.
In this episode of The Main Track, you’ll get a look back at Ron’s switching-focused Springfield Terminal in operation. Watch trains serving yards and industries based on real locations in Springfield, Missouri on the Frisco Railway. While the real railroad folded into Burlington Northern in 1980, this layout provides a “small” reminder of what things were like in good times gone by.
