In the 1960's, Clint Eastwood went off to Spain to work with Italian filmmaker, Sergio Leone. It would later be known as the Dollars Trilogy and with a different style to the western genre thanks to Leone, it not only became some of the most popular films, but also turned Eastwood into a movie star.

There was a certain interpretation of western films being made with the likes of John Wayne, Roy Rogers and William Boyd. An evolution was taking place and the next level of the genre came with Leone. With characters who were rugged, dangerous, and mysterious it violated the ethical code of the old westerns. It was becoming more gritty, realistic and stylish. There was more of an anti-hero establishment along with interesting shootouts and unique music. The composer, Ennio Morricone became a powerful duo with Sergio Leone and with every film Leone ever directed, it had that magic touch. The music became iconic and outlasted time along with these films.

The Man with No Name (Eastwood) and The Man in Black (Cleef) team up to take on a vicious outlaw(Volonte) and the end result is a western classic. Lee Van Cleef is another legendary movie star who became famous through this genre and Gian Maria Volonte was a brilliant actor who played a terrific villain. He reminds me of a pirate who is merciless yet charismatic at the same time. The action is impressive for an old film and still holds up and in my eyes, no other western was topping Leone's action. A great film a part of a trilogy that people still watch after all these years.

It's quite remarkable to see such an old film still being watched til' this day, holding tremendous influence over many filmmakers and still able to entertain. These films similar to other classics will live on forever for the work of Leone is timeless and evidence of a cinematic master.
