In October 1915 Laois, or Leix as it was then known, won the All-Ireland Hurling Final at Croke Park for the first time. That feat has never been repeated by any Laois hurling team since then. In the 1915 final. Leix was represented by the Ballygeehan Club and their rivals in the All-Ireland Final were Cork, represented by the Redmonds Club. This video takes you on a nostalgic sporting journey from the home of the Ballygeehan Club in the parish of Aghaboe in rural Co. Laois to Croke Park, Dublin. Along the way, we introduce the 1915 players, hear about team preparations and behind the scenes activities, an account of the game from a sports reporter's/supporter's perspective and take a look at several items used during that All-Ireland final and which survive in Co. Laois to this day.
[With thanks to Croke Park Museum and Archive, Heritage House Abbeyleix, John Finlay and Christy Dunphy for access to a number of items shown in this video.].
