Maa Dhari Devi is the Guardian Goddess of Uttarakhand's Garhwal Region.
Maa Dhari Devi is one of Uttarakhand's most venerated deities, recognised for protecting the Char Dham and the Garhwal region. Her temple is located on the banks of the Alaknanda River near Srinagar (Garhwal), perched on a little hillock that appears to have been divinely chosen for her permanent presence.
A Living Goddess: The Changing Faces of the Divine
One of the most incredible and sacred beliefs about Maa Dhari Devi is that her celestial Face changes three times a day:
In the morning, she looks to be a young girl (kumari).
In the afternoon, as a mature women (yuvati)
In the evening, as an old lady (vriddha).
This transformation is not symbolic, but is supposed to be visible to temple priests and devotees, enhancing her mystical mystery and making the temple a spiritually charged space.
