Frank M. Gashumba is a Ugandan entrepreneur, social activist, and political commentator, known for his outspoken nature and influence in both business and public life. Born on December 3, 1974, in Villa Maria, Masaka District, Uganda, to parents of Rwandan origin, Gashumba has built a prominent reputation as a businessman and public figure.
Business Ventures
He began his entrepreneurial journey in 1997 by founding Mali Mixed Farm, followed by the Mali Group of Companies in 1998, with interests in agriculture, transport, mineral exploration, and tourism. He also operates:
Sarafina Safaris
Sarafina Skills Services
Bbunda Holdings (gold and timber trade in the DRC)
Social Activism
Gashumba rose to national attention in 2007 for supporting Aisha Nabukeera, a young girl who suffered severe burns in a domestic accident. His campaign sparked widespread support and national sympathy, enhancing his profile as a humanitarian.
Political Involvement
In 2023, he was appointed Vice Chairman for the Central Region of the MK Movement, a political initiative supporting General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s presidential ambitions. This cemented Gashumba's role as a political mobilizer and influential public figure.
Controversies
Gashumba has faced legal and public scrutiny:
In 2023, he was briefly detained by CMI (Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence) over accusations of impersonation and fraud, which he denied.
In 2024, he issued a public apology to the Buganda Kingdom and its Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, for earlier misunderstandings.
As of May 2025, Frank Gashumba is traditionally engaged to Patience Mutoni Malaika, a Rwandan-born Ugandan woman. The couple held a traditional introduction ceremony in Sembabule, Uganda.
This marked a surprising turn in Gashumba’s personal life, as he had previously expressed strong views against marriage, citing personal freedom and past negative experiences. Malaika, whose name means “Patience Angel,” has since drawn public attention for her grace and the couple's strong connection.

In Luganda, it generally means “sibling”, “relative”, or “kinsman.”
In Kinyarwanda, “Umuvandimwe” carries the same meaning and also conveys a sense of brotherhood or solidarity.
It is a respectful term often used in both family and cultural contexts to emphasize kinship, unity, or shared heritage.
