The development of regulation around gene editing in the UK (specifically England) has shifted from strict alignment with the EU's Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) rules to establishing a new, science-based, and proportionate framework for "precision breeding (PB)." In addition to providing an update on the International Barley Hub, Dan will analyse the current PB legislation and its impact. The talk will detail a decade of PB development at The James Hutton Institute, including advancements aiming to increase the varieties amenable to transformation, the catalogue of gene targets available and related protocols.
