Hush Acoustics' Hush Lag 5/25 is a versatile 5kg/m² mass-loaded lagging product, often referred to as ‘mufti lagging’, which provides a barrier to reduce noise originating from ductwork, pipes, enclosures and a wide variety of building services, #hvac systems and industrial processes.
It is a high-performance acoustic laminate featuring a stable tri-layer construction which combines a controlled-density mineral fibre layer, a flexible high-mass acoustic barrier and a reinforced foil facing.
Suitable for residential, commercial and industrial buildings, the integrated design of this lightweight acoustic lagging delivers both mass and isolation within a single 15.25mm thick material, eliminating the need for a separate decoupling layer.
Durability is maximised through Hush Lag 5/25’s outer foil which protects the inner stitched quilt mineral wool core from damage during installation, along with fibre migration throughout its lifetime, and it offers flame and vapour resistance. That makes it suitable for a wide variety of uses, such as providing sound insulation for ducting, soil pipes, waste pipes, plant and machinery.
The product’s acoustic performance is declared in its Rw rating of 36 dB, with a high SRI (Sound Reduction Index) level of 38 dB – the average performance across a range of sound frequencies. This rating reflects how Hush Lag 5/25 can make a significant difference to noise levels within buildings by both absorbing sound and creating a barrier to sound transmission as a result of the increased mass.
The mineral fibre core also helps to dampen vibrations through structures, as can occur in ducting, and absorb sound generated within the room to minimise echoes and reverberation.
Hush Lag 5/25 is also tested to offer minimal fire risk. Its fire performance has been tested in accordance with BS EN ISO 11925-2 and BS EN 13823 and classified with a B-s2, d0 rating (test Ref: 27/06787B3/06/25), meaning it has a very limited contribution to fire.
The thermal characteristics of Hush Lag 5/25 also means if offers stable performance across a wide temperature range from 20–93°C. Its low thermal conductivity helps to minimise heat transfer from within pipes and ducts to internal spaces within the building, and vice versa, as well as keep moisture out of HVAC units and reduce condensation build up .
Hush Lag 5/25 is part of an extensive range of sound reduction products manufactured in the UK by Hush Acoustics for buildings of all types.
