This paper considers how an immigrant family at the centre of the British universe retained and adapted its Germanness in the privacy of their own home in the later eighteenth century. It does so through a look at the royal taste buds, taking a careful look at tens of thousands of dishes that graced the household tables of Georges III and IV (1760-1827) in order to identify traces of Germanic cultural consumption at the heart of the British establishment.
We are grateful to the British Academy and the Georgian Papers Programme for support.
This is a draft seminar paper for the British History in the Long Eighteenth Century Seminar at the Institute of Historical Research in London. It has not yet been peer reviewed and has been posted to seek constructive feedback from subject experts prior to formal publication.
