How the “I don’t dream of labor” movement damaged my mental health

Hey y’all. I watched a video recently (I’ve seen plenty of videos like this) that talked about how much of our lifespan is spent doing things that is not “living your best life.”

And that made me think about the “I don’t dream of labor movement” and how that philosophy has negatively impacted me in the past two or so years since it gained traction. Maybe it’s very old school of me to think this way, but honestly I’ve been feeling so much lighter these days because of this paradigm shift in my mindset.

Basically, this past year has taught me that I’m already living my best life, no matter what stage of life I’m in, because it’s the only life I get to have. And the more I spend time dwelling on how I could be living a better life than I currently live, or feeling stuck and wallowing in self pity because I haven’t achieved what I wanted to achieve yet at this point in my life, the more it damages my psyche.

Life’s not a race. And just going at it day by day, taking things in stride as they come up, is really the only thing we can do sometimes. And accepting that fact will make you happier with your life than you’ve ever been before.
