Acclaimed author Margaret Atwood receives an honorary degree at the University of York during our 2025 summer graduation ceremonies.
An author of over 50 books, Margaret is renowned for her fiction, poetry, and essays, and also works as a cartoonist, illustrator, and playwright. Her notable novels include The Handmaid’s Tale, followed by the Booker-winning sequel The Testaments. Recent works include the poetry collection Dearly (2020), essays in Burning Questions (2022), and short stories in Old Babes in the Wood (2023), with Paper Boat (2024) comprising new and selected poems.
Atwood has received numerous accolades, including the Arthur C. Clarke Award and the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade, and was made a Companion of Honour.
