France was on the back foot, but the events in the Holy Roman empire, where the Emperor Charles V had to contend both with the Protestant movement and the incursions of the Ottoman empire, allowed the house of Valois to continue the fight in Italy. In this video we will cover the 5th, 6th and 7th Italian wars, including the Sack of Rome in 1527 and the battle of Ceresole of 1544
