We call them “Black Swan” events – rare, unpredictable, but deeply disruptive.
In this latest Dean’s Call episode, I spoke with IESE Business School professor Eduard Calvo about how leaders can strengthen their organizations’ resilience in a world where the unimaginable is increasingly imaginable.
Here are a few insights that stood out to me:
• Map your full supply chain – not just your largest vendors. Hidden vulnerabilities often lie deeper.
• Watch out for “Lean fundamentalism.” Running without slack means betting that nothing will ever go wrong.
• Resilience starts with mindset. You can’t control everything, but you can prepare to adapt – fast.
It’s a conversation that reminded me that in leadership, readiness often matters more than prediction.
